BREMERHAVEN. In the course of preparing to scrap the \u201cSeute Deern\u201d, workers are currently removing paint that contains toxic asbestos from the hull of the museum ship. Only then will the ship be dismantled. To protect the environment, the work is being performed under plastic sheeting. The scrapping costs, estimated at three million Euros, will be paid by the state of Bremen and the city of Bremerhaven. As a new eye-catcher in the museum harbour, the city is to get a replica of the \u201cNajade\u201d, which was launched in Bremerhaven in 1888 as the first large cargo ship with a steel hull.<\/p>\n
