BREMERHAVEN.<\/strong> The Bremen Senate is providing around 56 million euros for the expansion. Among other things, these funds will be used to build seven additional tracks, each approximately 740 metres long. There are also plans to digitise the existing infrastructure to improve the port\u2019s connection to the hinterland. According to Port Senator Kristina Vogt, the project is crucial for the location\u2019s competitiveness: \u201cWe need an efficient infrastructure that grows with the demands. In Speckenb\u00fcttel, we are not only creating more capacity, but also ensuring that processes become simpler, faster and more reliable,\u201d said Vogt. Robert Howe, Managing Director of Bremenports, also highlighted the importance of the project \u2013 not only for civilian use, but also with regard to potential military requirements. Already, more than half of the container traffic at the Port of Bremerhaven is handled by rail; for vehicle transport, this figure is even over 80 per cent.<\/p>\n
