Container throughput at the site rose in 2025 to 4.9 million TEU, an increase of 10.3 per cent. Bremerhaven therefore fulfils a dual function: as a \u201cgateway\u201d port for the hinterland and as an international \u201chub\u201d for transhipment between deep-sea and feeder services. \u201cThe study provides impressive confirmation: Bremerhaven is and remains a central node in international container traffic. Our strength lies not only in the handling itself, but especially in our connections to the hinterland. A high-performing rail network is crucial here, because it can transport large volumes reliably, quickly and in a climate-friendly way over long distances\u2014thereby directly determining our port\u2019s competitiveness in international comparison.
