What began shortly before Christmas quickly developed into an impressive logistical achievement. Together with strong partners, Rhenus Midgard in Nordenham successfully mastered the challenge of supplying around 12,000 tons of high-quality river sand to an HVDC converter construction site on time—despite tight deadlines and winter conditions.
In close cooperation with SMT – Shipping Material Trading in Cuxhaven and the port colleagues in Nordenham, the demanding plan was put into action within a very short period of time. The sand was freshly recovered from the Weser riverbed and dredged using the suction dredger MV Spauwer (operated by Den Herder Seaworks). On January 6, unloading in Nordenham was completed within just a few hours.
Deliveries to the construction site began just one day later. With around 15 trucks in continuous operation, transport ran reliably and smoothly.
Despite winter weather and short-term interruptions, the project was launched exactly as planned. This achievement once again demonstrates how expertise, commitment, and strong partnerships make exceptional results possible in the ports of Lower Saxony.
