MSC Cruises: Meyer Werft receives order for six new cruise ships

16.01.2026

BERLIN. In mid-January, MSC Cruises announced a major order for four next-generation cruise ships and two further options at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. This marks the launch of the new “New Frontier” platform – a completely new class of ship. The order secures full capacity utilization for the shipyard well into the next decade. The announcement was made at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Katherina Reiche and Lower Saxony’s Minister President Olaf Lies, MSC Cruises Supervisory Board Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago, and Meyer Werft Managing Director Dr. Bernd Eikens. “This new order is a significant milestone in the 230-year history of MEYER WERFT. We are delighted to welcome MSC Cruises as a new customer and strategic partner and are honored by the trust they have placed in us,” said Eikens. With a maximum passenger capacity of 5,400 and a gross tonnage of around 180,000, the “New Frontier” ships will be delivered annually starting in 2030.
