CUXHAVEN In February, NPorts presented its plans for a barrier-free partial reconstruction of the “Alte Liebe” in Cuxhaven. The structure, which has shaped the cityscape since 1733, will be rebuilt above the existing foundation and raised higher in order to respond to rising storm surge water levels and long-term climate change. At the same time, barrier-free access and an open area offering space for visitors to linger and enjoy the view will be created. “We are taking this opportunity to give the ‘Alte Liebe’ a modern and safe new look,” says Holger Banik, Managing Director of Niedersachsen Ports and JadeWeserPort Realisierungs GmbH & Co. KG. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026.
