HAMBURG. Karl Gernandt took over as Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Hapag-Lloyd in March. He succeeded Michael Behrendt in this role, who was unable to continue in the post for health reasons.
Future project launched with no impact on island supplies

WANGEROOGE Works to modernise the island supply port at Wangerooge Harbour began in March 2026. The measures form part of an overall project to upgrade the port infrastructure on the island. “Dismantling the existing pile structures at the jetty marks the starting signal for our future-focused project on Wangerooge,” says Anja Bokeloh of the Norden branch of NPorts. “This will be followed by the creation of an open area to prepare for the subsequent construction activities. In the next step, the site will undergo an unexploded ordnance survey before a sheet-pile wall is installed along the dune. There will be no impact on island supplies or ferry services. “The pier will remain accessible during the current construction phase and the island railway will run as normal,” emphasises Bokeloh. “Especially with the Easter holidays in mind, we have organised our operations in such a way that passengers can travel safely and without restrictions from the ship to the railway and back.”

Bremen Ports see positive growth in 2025
BREMEN. Compared with 2024, container throughput at Bremen’s ports grew by 10.3 per cent in 2025. Following a figure of around 4.4 million TEU in 2024, around 4.9 million TEU were handled in 2025. March 2025 was the most successful month, with 431,000 TEU.
