Large-vessel berth in Emden is visibly progressing

01.07.2026

EMDEN. In mid-June, members of the NPorts Supervisory Board were briefed on the progress of construction work on the new large-vessel berth in Emden’s outer harbour. The large-vessel berth is being built to a length of around 337 metres and will in future enable the handling of large vehicle and general cargo ships. The infrastructure project, with an investment volume of around 70 million euros, is a key component of the Ems 2050 Master Plan and is intended to secure the long-term competitiveness of the Port of Emden. Completion is scheduled for 2027. Grant Hendrik Tonne, Lower Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Transport and Construction and Chairman of the NPorts Supervisory Board, commented: “High-performance ports are a crucial locational factor for Lower Saxony. The berth for large vessels in Emden strengthens the competitiveness of our largest seaport for vehicle handling and creates the conditions for further growth. It is gratifying to see that the work is visibly progressing.”
