EMDEN / DÖRPEN Linked by the River Ems and the Dortmund-Ems Canal, the ports of Emden and Dörpen have been working together for years. Now, the port dialogue launched in February on the initiative of Hartmut Moorkamp (CDU), a member of the Emsland regional parliament, is set to gather further momentum. At the invitation of the Emden Port Development Company (EHFG), representatives from the political and port sectors of the Emsland joint municipality visited the Port of Emden in September. The first stop was Anker Schiffahrts-Gesellschaft, which supplies UPM Nordland Papier GmbH in Dörpen with cellulose from the outer harbour. Also on the agenda were visits to Omya GmbH, which operates a tank farm for ‘calcium carbonate slurries’ and a production plant for calcium carbonate-kaolin mixtures in Emden, and to Ems Ports Agency & Stevedoring (Epas). The company handles parts for the energy transition at the North and South Quays and stores some of them temporarily in Dörpen. During the recent meeting, Dörpen’s mayor, Hermann Wocken, has already extended a reciprocal invitation to the third Port Dialogue in the Emsland region, to be held in early 2027.

HAMBURG. Seaports of Niedersachsen once again presented itself at the joint stand of the State of Lower Saxony at WindEnergy in Hamburg last week. Numerous company representatives from Lower Saxony’s port locations used the trade fair to position themselves as key logistics partners for the energy transition.

HAMBURG. Together with Hamburg’s Senator for Economic Affairs and Innovation, Dr Melanie Leonhard, and the main contractor Gieseke, the CEO of BLG LOGISTICS, Matthias Magnor, laid the foundation stone for a sustainable site development in the Port of Hamburg on 17 September 2026.
