NORDERNEY / NORDDEICH. After six of the eight groups of wooden dolphins on the heavy-duty ramp at Norderney had reached the end of their service life, NPorts replaced them in July 2026 with eight freestanding steel-tube dolphins fitted with doughnut fenders. Two groups of wooden dolphins on the ramp were retained to continue to allow vessels to moor during periods of high water. “The location outside the sheltered harbour area presented us with particular challenges. Above all, the strong current required a great deal of experience and precise coordination when moving the vessels and the work pontoon,” explains site manager Immo Remmers from the NPorts branch in Norden. He praised the smooth cooperation between the N-Ports depots in Emden, Norddeich and Norderney. Following the completion of the work on Norderney, the project team continued the work in Norddeich, where they replaced two further dolphins. The investment for the project amounted to just over one million euros.
