Expansion of shore power facilities at the cruise terminal

BREMERHAVEN At the cruise terminal on Bremerhaven’s Columbuskaje, construction work on an underground cable trench is in full swing. In a construction pit around 100 metres long on the quay, the first sections of the future cable duct have already been installed. The aim is to bring the facility into operation over the course of this year. Cruise ships will then be able to switch off their onboard power generation while alongside and instead draw green electricity from the shore. This will significantly reduce emissions such as fine particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and CO₂. To minimise disruption to cruise operations as far as possible, the project was deliberately launched as a winter construction site — with all the challenges that frost and low temperatures can bring.

New multi-purpose terminal planned for JadeWeserPort
WILHELMSHAVEN. Germany’s only deep-water port, JadeWeserPort, is set to be expanded with a new terminal. “It will be a multi-purpose terminal,” announced NPorts Managing Director Holger Banik at a press conference in March.
