BREMERHAVEN. Which fuels will drive the shipping industry of the future? Methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, or a mix of technologies – the answer is crucial for maritime transformation. With a previously unique industry survey, bremenports aims to gather reliable data for the first time on future demand from shipping companies. The goal is to create a solid foundation for investments in port infrastructure, energy supply, and regulation.
Initial responses already indicate that the industry is undergoing a transition, and no single dominant solution is currently emerging. Instead, multiple alternative energy sources may be used in parallel. For ports, this means complex requirements in terms of safety, storage, and bunkering infrastructure.
To obtain as comprehensive a picture as possible, the deadline for participation in the international online survey has now been extended until the end of April 2026.
