WILHELMSHAVEN. The Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsamt (WSA) Weser-Jade-Nordsee announced in March the successful completion of the major refurbishment and conversion of the sliding gate at the Wilhelmshaven sea lock.
New multi-purpose terminal planned for JadeWeserPort

WILHELMSHAVEN. Germany’s only deep-water port, JadeWeserPort, is set to be expanded with a new terminal. “It will be a multi-purpose terminal,” announced NPorts Managing Director Holger Banik at a press conference in March. In future, the terminal is intended to handle not only containers but also components for wind turbines, cars and military shipments. Plans for such a port expansion were most recently driven forward by the Mosolf Group, which handles vehicle shipments in Wilhelmshaven as a logistics service provider. In a vision paper now presented by NPorts, the JadeWeserPort quay is to be extended northwards by around 900 metres to accommodate the new terminal. However, approvals and funding are still pending. NPorts estimates the construction costs at between 700 million and one billion euros.

Expansion of shore power facilities at the cruise terminal
BREMERHAVEN. At the cruise terminal on Bremerhaven’s Columbuskaje, construction work on an underground cable trench is in full swing. In a construction pit around 100 metres long on the quay, the first sections of the future cable duct have already been installed.
