Pragmatic tugboat solution for greater safety

22.07.2026

BREMEN The tugboats that operate daily in Neustädter Hafen and the Industriehafen in Bremen have had a new berth since July 2026. Instead of being moored outside the harbour basin on the opposite bank of the Weser near Seehausen, as was previously the case, there are now two berths directly within Neustädter Hafen – on the eastern side of the harbour basin, immediately behind the Lankenauer Höft. “With these new berths, we are creating better conditions for safe and efficient harbour operations,” said Deputy Harbour Master Joachim Bothe. As today’s sea-going assistance tugs are significantly larger than they were a few years ago, it was also necessary to adapt the berthing arrangements to meet current requirements. Bothe added: “The tugs can now reach their operational locations more quickly, and working conditions and crew safety have been significantly improved.”
