Investment despite pandemic – Renovation and new construction of the sea lock in the seaort of Papenburg

12.10.2021

Papenburg, August 2021 | Many investment measures have been implemented in the recent years to further demonstrate the importance of this important business location. The largest infrastructure project in the city of Papenburg is currently the renovation and construction of the sea lock while it is still in operation.

After the contract was signed in December 2019, the construction of the new outer head of the lock started by the company Hecker. The construction volume is 21.5 million euros. Completion is scheduled for May 2022.

Two further, similarly large construction sections for the inner head and the lock chamber have to follow in the coming years. Only in this way the sea and inland port of Papenburg remains operationally reliable and meets all requirements for the expected future.
