BREMEN. On behalf of the Bremen Senate, the Bremische Hafen- und Logistikvertretung (BHV) hosted the 59th Captains’ Day at Bremen Town Hall on 4 September 2026. Around 300 guests from the shipping, port and logistics sectors, as well as from the world of politics, attended this long-standing event, which this year focused on the growing importance of seaports and civilian logistics for supply chains and defence capabilities. In his welcoming address, Eduard Dubbers-Albrecht, spokesperson for the BHV Executive Committee (4th from the left), said: “The current situation shows just how important efficient ports and functioning logistics chains are for our country.” And Major General Jochen Deuer, Commander of the Bundeswehr Logistics Command and General for Bundeswehr Logistics (5th from the left), made it clear: “Logistics is not a secondary support function. It is a strategic prerequisite for military operational capability.” In total, the event – at which captains were honoured on behalf of their crews for connecting Bremen and Bremerhaven to the rest of the world by sea and air – raised donations totalling 26,855 euros for the Bremen Seamen’s Mission and the Bremen Port Museum.
