03.09.2026

HAMBURG. The SMM (Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology) trade fair has begun in Hamburg. At the opening of the world’s most important trade fair for the maritime industry, Hamburg’s Senator for Economic Affairs, Ms Leonhard, emphasised the importance of secure infrastructure and resilient supply chains for the sector. Leading representatives of international shipowners’ and shipping associations also attended the opening. At the SMM, more than 2,300 companies from 70 countries are showcasing their innovations in the fields of shipbuilding, shipping and port operations. This year’s focus is on climate-friendly propulsion systems, energy efficiency, digitalisation, artificial intelligence and safety at sea. A total of around 50,000 trade visitors are expected. Running alongside the SMM, ‘All About Ports’ is taking place in Hamburg for the first time. This is a combination of a specialist conference and exhibition that comprehensively covers all structures and processes within the port. The Maritime Cluster Northern Germany is the programme and networking partner for the event.
