WILHELMSHAVEN KfW Ipex-Bank is providing terminal operator EUROGATE with a loan of 82 million euros for a pilot project to develop and verify automation and digitalisation solutions, which will be tested at the Wilhelmshaven container terminal. The aim of the project is to make terminal processes more efficient through the use of modern software and autonomous technologies. Specifically, autonomous terminal trucks (ATTs) will move containers between the quay and automated stacking cranes (ASCs). With this project, EUROGATE intends to further develop its own terminal software for the operation of automated container terminals and bring it to a stage where it is ready for practical application. The insights gained in Wilhelmshaven are to be incorporated into the overall assessment of the future handling system and lead to a decision in favour of a comprehensive roll-out – initially in Hamburg and later at other German EUROGATE sites. “Together with EUROGATE, we are sending a clear signal in favour of modernising port logistics and thereby strengthening Germany as a business location,” says Aida Welker, member of the Executive Board of KfW IPEX-Bank.
