New plantings for the floodplain forest in Brake

02.11.2026

BRAKE In autumn 2026, NPorts continued the planting of a compensation area in Brake. In addition to the plantings carried out in the spring, a floodplain forest comprising 117 trees and shrubs is being developed on an area previously used as intensive grassland between the B212 federal road and Dungen Weg. The plan is to plant elms, various species of alder and willow, English oaks, wild cherries, wild apples, spindle trees, as well as blackthorn and hawthorn. The area, covering around 34,000 square metres, serves to offset the impact of works associated with the creation of additional port areas between the Olenex Edible Oils site and the Niedersachsenkai site. This is based on the City of Brake’s Local Development Plan 70, ‘Boitwarder Groden/Boitwarder Außendeich’. The plan also provides for the planting of a 500-square-metre wildflower meadow there in spring 2027.
